Wish papers are an ancient Chinese tradition that traveled to Europe, they are intended to be rolled in the hand and the person holding makes a wish. The paper is then to be  set on a dish and lit with a match. Magically, the Wishing paper lifts, flying skyward, twirls a few times and then turns to ash. The wish has been granted.
